I lose track of time when I am engaged with music production and sound engineering. For example, when I start making a beat, I forget all about the world around me. I've learned how I can use my creative mind in a way to express myself. Further, it captivates me because I’ve begun to dive deep into the process, developing efficient qualities in myself and figuring out what I really like. When I want to learn more about music production and sound engineering, I listen to my favorite songs or albums, and I deconstruct them in my head. As a result of my strong interest in this field, I have continued to develop many skills within myself, such as my work efforts, creative identity, and as much as collaboration skills. I look forward to using my understanding in order to achieve what I have come to think of as my unique style of music, and I want to learn more as a future student and professional.
For as long as I can remember, music has been at the center of my life. When I was younger it was always a way for me to connect with my parents and I have always been curious about how anything I was exposed to was made. I first started learning how to produce music when I was 10, and it was around a three year process to develop any real skill. But through my desire to pursue music, I was always able to stick with that and play the guitar. This has unwillingly improved my work ethic significantly, as I have noticed great changes in my performance at school. I feel as if I am a vessel for music, and it just naturally flows out of me. I am not constantly thinking about every note or beat, it just happens. I took about 3 years of practice before I started creating music that I was proud of.
Collaboration has recently become a big part of my workflow. Having made numerous friends who all share the same interests as me and do the same things, we have started working together for most of our projects. For all of my life music has been there for me, and having people to share that love with is something I have always been grateful for. Sitting and working on one project together has helped me build strong friendships and understand how to better see the perspectives of my peers around me.
I feel as if my life would be completely different without music. I feel as if music has positively helped me throughout all aspects of my life. Music helps me with my ability to focus, learn, process information, relay information, and most importantly, my ability to socialize and connect with others. Music motivates me and can always be something for me to be excited about. The feeling of making something and putting it out or playing a concert is unmatched. Going to All State every year, being a part of an honors society, and finding every way I can to get involved brings me joy like nothing else. All these skills and experiences that I have developed through music I believe make me a great fit for your school and program.
